Which Microscope for me?

Postby Olly on Mon Nov 21, 2011 1:24 am

Hey,

Recently myself and my lab partner realised a lot of our students would constantly ask us which microscope they should buy? And in short we would reply by asking a number of questions; what are you willing to spend? what do you need it for? have you researched all of the latest technologies for your work?

So we have started a site http://digitalmicroscopesreview.com/ to review a few of the microscopes we have used or have access to. We also have compared some ones which were on display in nearby labs. We hope this site will help on your search for the right microscope.

A few tips; Celestron is by far my personal favourite for reliability. I think Celestron and Nikon essentially give value which proportional to their price. ie. you get what you pay for.

Let me know what your thought or tips are for choosing a microscope? any ideas?

Regards,

Olly. (Australia)

Olly,
Celestron and Nikon aren't even on the same planet when it comes to the quality of the microscope, especially the optics. Don't get me wrong, Celestron has some really fun microscopes, especially the digital microscopes. But for serious work with a microscope you will use every day, Nikon is far and away the better microscope.
